Approximate Study Time: 2 hours (self-paced)
Course Overview:
Develop a systematic sonographic approach to one of the most challenging abdominal organs to evaluate: the pancreas. This two part course reviews pancreatic anatomy and its relationship to surrounding organ systems, helping clinicians consistently locate and assess the pancreas from a practical ultrasound perspective.
Through case examples and pathology discussions, viewers learn how pancreatic appearance changes with inflammatory, degenerative, and neoplastic disease processes. Emphasis is placed on real-world interpretation, including how ultrasound findings integrate into overall clinical decision-making.
The course also explores ultrasound-guided pancreatic sampling techniques along with medical and surgical management considerations, giving participants a comprehensive overview of pancreatic disease from image acquisition through treatment planning.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, you will know how to
- Understand normal pancreatic anatomy and sonographic positioning in dogs and cats
- Identify pancreatic relationships with adjacent abdominal structures
- Recognize sonographic findings associated with pancreatitis
- Understand sensitivities and specificities of pancreatic serum testing, including amylase, lipase, and PLI
- Differentiate degenerative pancreatic changes from neoplastic patterns
- Recognize sonographic features of fibrosis, amyloid deposition, and nodular hyperplasia
- Understand principles and techniques of ultrasound-guided pancreatic sampling
- Integrate sonographic findings into medical and surgical treatment planning
