Course Overview:

Take your echocardiography skills to the next level by refining the details that matter most. This lecture is designed to improve measurement accuracy and image quality across every stage of the echocardiographic exam from B-mode to M-mode to Doppler.

You’ll learn how to consistently acquire clean, diagnostic images and apply precise measurement techniques that align with real cardiac physiology. The course emphasizes practical, real-world application, helping you recognize and correct common errors while adapting your approach across a range of cardiac pathologies.

With a strong focus on functional cardiology, key concepts include the apical 5-chamber view, Starling’s Law, and the heart as a dynamic pump. You’ll also refine critical measurements and assessments such as LV M-mode anatomy, EPSS, left atrial sizing (LA max, LA/Ao, and the June Boon method), heart base evaluation, and pulmonary artery Doppler.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will know how to

  • Acquire properly aligned echocardiographic images for accurate, repeatable measurements
  • Optimize image quality using B-mode, M-mode, and Doppler techniques
  • Perform standardized measurements of the left ventricle, left atrium, and heart base
  • Apply and interpret key metrics, including EPSS and left atrial measurement methods (LA max, LA/Ao, June Boon method)
  • Recognize and correct common measurement and Doppler errors related to angle, scale, and gain
  • Evaluate Doppler flow patterns, including mitral and tricuspid color flow and LVOT alignment
  • Apply troubleshooting strategies when measurements do not match clinical presentation
  • Integrate functional cardiology principles into everyday echocardiographic assessment
