Course Overview:
When a patient presents with respiratory distress or thoracic abnormalities, determining whether the origin is cardiogenic, pulmonary, or systemic is critical and often challenging. This course provides a practical, clinically driven framework to help you “dial in” the source of disease using a combination of ultrasound, echocardiography, radiographs, and key clinical parameters.
You’ll learn how to distinguish left-sided heart failure from non-cardiogenic conditions, evaluate pleural and pulmonary pathology, and apply thoracic ultrasound for lesion identification and guided sampling. The course integrates real-world case examples and emphasizes pattern recognition, allowing you to make faster, more confident diagnostic decisions in both emergency and general practice settings. Additional topics include valve disease classification, thoracic cysts and masses, thromboembolic disease, thoracic hernia, carcinomatosis/lymphomatosis, and thoracic causes of passive congestion.
From pulmonary edema and thromboembolic disease to lung lobe torsion and thoracic masses, this pre-recorded webinar equips you with the tools to navigate complex thoracic cases with clarity.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course, you will know how to
- Differentiate cardiogenic vs. non-cardiogenic causes of respiratory disease
- Apply normal respiratory, echocardiographic, and radiographic parameters in clinical assessment
- Identify key ultrasound and imaging findings associated with left-sided heart failure
- Recognize pleural effusion and distinguish underlying causes
- Evaluate pulmonary pathology, including edema, consolidation, cysts, and thromboembolic disease
- Map thoracic lesions for ultrasound-guided sampling
- Identify less common thoracic conditions, including lung lobe torsion, hernias, and neoplasia
- Understand thoracic causes of abdominal passive congestion
- Integrate imaging findings with clinical presentation for accurate diagnosis and decision-making
