Course Overview:

The SDEP® Advanced Echocardiography & Cardiac Lab & Lecture training weekend is designed for clinicians who already possess foundational echocardiography skills and are ready to move into advanced interpretation, pathology recognition, and clinical application.

This immersive program expands beyond image acquisition to focus on the “why” behind cardiac findings to help participants connect echocardiographic changes with physiology, disease progression, treatment planning, and patient outcomes. Through advanced lectures, hands-on scanning refinement, and case-based discussion, attendees will strengthen both technical precision and diagnostic reasoning.

The course covers acquired and congenital cardiac disease in dogs and cats, advanced measurement interpretation, Doppler optimization, image troubleshooting, and current consensus recommendations in veterinary cardiology. Participants will also explore less commonly discussed but clinically important conditions such as myocarditis, nutritional cardiomyopathies, and the heart as an effector organ in systemic disease.

Hands-on lab sessions focus on improving efficiency, probe positioning, Doppler alignment, image optimization, and measurement accuracy to create more consistent and clinically meaningful echocardiographic studies.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize and interpret advanced echocardiographic pathology in dogs and cats
  • Differentiate acquired versus congenital cardiac disease using echocardiography
  • Refine probe positioning, image acquisition, and scanning efficiency
  • Optimize Doppler alignment and echocardiographic measurements for diagnostic accuracy
  • Identify and correct common echocardiographic errors and artefacts
  • Apply advanced cardiac measurement techniques with greater confidence and consistency
  • Understand echocardiographic manifestations of systemic and metabolic disease

What’s Included:

  • Lifetime access to pre- and post-lab materials on the SonoPath Education Network
  • 3 hours of instructed, hands-on wet lab
