Heartworm infection has been diagnosed in all 50 US states and global climate change has enhanced the ability of the parasite to live and thrive in different geographies and for longer periods of the year. In addition, recent concerns around resistance of the parasite have relevance to preventative and treatment strategies. This session provides an update on heartworm disease in dogs and cats, emphasizing recent updates to treatment preventative strategies.
